MIGUEL BRITOS is certain that the Hornets will be ready for the start of the Premier League season this weekend at Southampton.
The Golden Boys concluded their pre-season friendly schedule with a 2-2 draw against FC Lorient at Vicarage Road on Saturday, with Britos playing the full 90 minutes in defence.
“We grew into the encounter and we played well after the first 20 minutes,” the 31-year-old said, speaking after full-time to watfordfc.com.
“It was hot, it was not easy, but we tried to do everything we’ve worked on during pre-season.
“We still have some time to improve on the things we could have done better, so we will work hard and we are looking forward to the start of the season.”
The friendly saw Walter Mazzarri once again switch from 3-5-2 to a 4-3-3 formation mid-match, and Britos believes pre-season is the perfect time to try different systems and shapes.
“Our defensive jobs changed a little bit – when we were three in defence we were more marking the strikers,” said the Uruguayan.
“The two formations are totally different, but now is the time to try these things.
“We have to continue working hard this week and try to correct our mistakes. We will try to give our best to ensure we are ready for Southampton.”
